Digital Single Point Load Cells
Single point load cells, sometimes referred to as platform load cells, are particularly useful to allow the load to be placed anywhere on the weighing platform (i.e. eccentric loading) without negatively affecting the measurement.
This characteristic is a very important feature in many weighing applications e.g. dynamic weighing, conveyor belts, platform scales, small vessels etc.
Utilising the Eilersen digital capacitive measurement principle where a non-contacting ceramic sensor is positioned within the load cell body helps increase the accuracy, resolution and tolerance levels of vibrations and overloads.
The performance can be further improved by utilising digital filters to remove influence from motors, conveyor belts, vibrators, gears movements etc.
Eilersen demonstrated the effect of digital filters at the 2007 Powtech Exhibition where a simple visual experiment was shown throughout the show. The idea was simple, set up a weighing system and place a regular mid-sized desktop fan on the load surface. The measurement would be shown on a digital readout positioned for everyone to view. Next a small coin (10 grams) would be placed onto the loading surface and any change in measurement recorded. This process was then repeated twice, once with the fan turned on to create a repeatable vibration and finally once with the fan turned on but also with a digital filter activated.
As you would expect the load cell accurately and steadily measured the fan with and without the coin when the fan was turned off. Turning the fan on created a variance which gave unpredictable measurements of +-120 grams on the digital readout. However when the digital filter was turned on the measurement settled and showed the accurate weight of 10 grams completely removing the interference created by the whirring fan.
If you require accurate measurement readings within a machine system process or where vibrations, shocks and tough environments exist then a single point digital load cell from Eilersen combined with a digital filter could be the solution you require
