Shockproof Load Cells in Floor Scales
Floor scales come in many different shapes and sizes for different weighing applications. Here we take a look at the advantages of using floor scale with digital load cells from Eilersen. This digital principle doesn’t use the normal method of strain gauge cells but instead uses a capacitive measurement principle that provides numerous benefits.
Using a capacitive load cell allows for huge variances in shock and vibration which would typically damage or wear standard strain gauge based systems. The Eilersen floor scales can tolerate up to a massive 1000% overload without any need for overload or side-load protection devices making them ideal for extremely tough environments, not to mention much simpler to install.
Using digital Eilersen load cells for scales has several advantages. One of the most significant for scale applications with several load cells is that electronic off-center load compensation is easy to implement. And this procedure will only take a few minutes if one of the Eilersen weighing terminals is used: A known weight is applied to each corner of the scale platform and any mechanical off-center load error resulting from uneven loading of the load cells is automatically compensated. By comparison, off-center compensation can often take hours and in some cases require hardware modifications if analog strain gage load cells are used.
Furthermore, the Eilersen digital load cells feature integrated diagnostics enabling defective load cells to be quickly identified.
To suit all applications the digital floor scales can be fitted with a wide variety of digital OIML and ATEX certified displays and weighing terminals. Alternatively they can be connected to a range of digital output modules with Profibus DP, DeviceNet, Modbus or 4-20 mA communication.
The digital load cells are sealed hermetically to IP68 with cable lengths of up to 100 meters ensuring that the instrumentation can be ideally located with no interference from the harsh conditions of the environment.
High accuracies of up to 10.000 scale divisions from the load cell are achieved with certified versions available according to OIML R60/R76 and weighing capacities up to 4 tonnes ensuring your floor scale can handle a wide range of resolutions from as low as 10 grams.
